Character History: [link to another page] Growing up in “The Badlands” is a hard thing to do.When he was very small, Vartan and his sister Valeria saw a group of enraged god worshippers raid their families homestead, and slaughter their parents, and take most of the valuables they could find.Because his parents had been Disciples of the Dragon (the likely reason they were hunted down and killed), the Disciples took the children in, and raised them within the fold of the religion. To say that they have led a sheltered life is an understatement.20 years or so have passed since their parents were killed.Vartan and Valeria are now rising up through the ranks of the Divine Dragon Mages, and are becoming respected priests/priestesses within the order. The strength of faith and passion they each hold for the religion is remarkable, and noticed amongst other followers.
As part of the annual cycles of the Disciples of the Dragon, Vartan and Valeria are traveling to another temple run by the Disciples in Quivera. As is common in these migratory quests, they are bringing a special artifact, several scrolls, and other magikal components to the head of the temple in Quivera. The Quiveran temple is led by a powerful Divine Dragon Mage (insert name here), but it is whispered that he is receiving special instructions from one of the Wearers of Red.Vartan and Valeria were raised in a temple where a Wearer of Red (insert name here) was cloistered, so they did interact with him from time but it is only now becoming clear that this was an unusual thing for young Divine Dragon Mages.Normally, the priests in training, and low level initiates only interact with other DDM within the temple, and leave the Wearers of Red (WoR) a wide berth.
In Game history:
Vartran and Valeria had quite a big event last September, when they were witness to the Blood sky spell being cast once again.
Later that night, Vartran had a chance to speak with the Dragon Oracle "Milgroos", who explained much of the mysteries surrounding the Dragons, and their Covenant between the elder gods and humans.Because of this event, Vartran has renounced his association with the Disciples of the Dragon, trying to reform the church to become the "Disciples of the Dragons of the Covenant", which is a very different organization. The big difference is this isn't an organized crime syndicate this time! The problem, is that only Vartran and Valeria know about the new church at this point.Others know of it, but don't really understand what the difference is, or why it is significant. He is actively looking to recruit new members, but isn't too sure as to the best way to do so.
